For the Dough

Pulse until it looks like wet sand—then let the dough rest like a sailor in port

Ingredients

  • 300 g All-Purpose Flour
  • 50 g Room Temperature Shortening
  • 200 g Warm Water

Instructions

  1. In a food processor, combine flour and shortening. Pulse until mixture resembles wet sand.
  2. With processor running, slowly add warm water until a dough ball forms.
  3. Remove dough and knead briefly on a clean surface until smooth.
  4. Divide into even-sized balls (8–10 depending on desired size).
  5. Place dough balls on a lightly oiled pan, cover, and let rest for 1 hour. The oil prevents sticking.
  6. Roll each ball into a thin round tortilla on a floured surface.
  7. Wrap finished tortillas in a towel and keep warm in a low oven (or tortilla warmer) until ready to serve.

Notes

Soft, pliable, and perfect for tacos, wraps, or galley feasts—these tortillas are a reliable staple for any voyage. Cook on a hot dry skillet for 30–60 seconds per side until lightly browned. Store in the ship’s stores for up to 3 days; reheat in a dry pan or microwave wrapped in a damp towel.
