For the Soothing Tea

For the richest flavor, choose a dark, floral honey if your provisions locker is stocked with it. The ginger root adds a fiery kick to warm the soul on the chilliest of days

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (from about 1/2 a lemon)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • ½ cup hot water (or more as desired)
  • 1 inch ginger, sliced into 1/16 inch slices

Instructions

  1. Combine the lemon juice and honey in a mug.
  2. Pour in the hot water and stir until the honey has dissolved.
  3. Add the sliced ginger and let it steep for 5 minutes.
  4. Remove the ginger slices before serving, or leave them for a stronger flavor.

Notes

This brew is a treasure trove of comfort, fit for a captain after a long voyage. To increase the potency, you can gently crush the ginger slices to release more of their precious liquid. This warm elixir is best enjoyed immediately but can be stored in the ship’s flask (thermos) for a few hours.
